Islam And Immigration
“While Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Parsees and Jews, along with several million adherents of an animistic religion, all coexisted in relative harmony, one religion that would not accept compromise stood out from the rest: Islam.”
These words were spoken in the year 1913 by the famous Indian pacifist, Mahatma Gandhi. And there is certainly no question that Islam was then (and still is now) far more extreme in the East than in the West. A recent poll published by the Pew Research Centre shows this to still be true. Moslems worldwide were asked the following question, “How would you describe your dedication to Islam?” In North America, over 80% of Moslems identified themselves as moderates. In the Middle East, less than 8% did the same. So how do we determine who the Eastern moderates are when there is a desire to come and live in Canada. I would propose ten “yes” or “no” questions to be answered with one’s hand resting firmly on the Koran.
#1 Do you oppose all terrorist attacks on any civilians the world over?
#2 Do you believe that damaging a copy of the Koran or making a caricature cartoon of Mohamed is not a legitimate reason to behave in a violent fashion?
#3 Do you believe that people have a right to leave the Islamic faith in peace without having to worry about their social standing or physical safety?
#4 Do you reject all violence towards women, including clitoretomies, forced intimacy, and wife beatings?
#5 Do you believe that a woman has just as much a right to be educated as a man?
#6 Do you believe that women should have the freedom of choice to leave the house without a male relative?
#7 Do you believe that all females are to be given the option of whether or not they want to wear a burga or the hijab?
#8 Do you believe that young people should not be threatened with so-called “honour” killing because their parents disagree with their lifestyle?
#9 Do you denounce all who are anti-Semite, Holocaust deniers, and callers for the destruction of Israel?
#10 Do you reject the Sharia as a primitive, barbaric code of life entirely incompatible with civilized behaviour?
If one can answer “yes” to all of the above, then I say – “Welcome to Canada.” If not, then – “Bon Voyage.”
