NOW THERE ARE FOUR Israel To The Moon

Home > Pastor's Page > NOW THERE ARE FOUR Israel To The Moon

Someone has written, “Copernicus’ parents might just deserve some of the credit for his great discovery. Apparently at the age of twelve they said to him: ‘Young man, when are you going to realize that the world does not revolve around you!’”

Up till now, the world of space exploration has revolved around the three major super-powers: America, China and Russia; only they have been to the moon. But now make room for number four, tiny Israel.  That’s right.  On February 21, the Hebrew nation launched Genesis, a robotic lander that is scheduled to set down on the lunar surface about eight weeks later, April 11.  Before that time, the spacecraft will circle the earth for about a month-and-a-half (it’s up there now) doing a number of scientific tests.  And as it does so, each orbit will increase in size and speed until, like the end of a whip, the spaceship will then catapult away from above the earth for the 239,000 mile (384,000 km) trip to a lunar surface spot called, The Sea of Serenity.  Once in the moon’s orbit, it will take about 20 minutes to do a soft landing.  And of all the other spaceships that have gone to the moon, Israel’s Genesis will be: the smallest (5 feet wide by 8 feet high), the lightest (1,200 pounds), the fastest (22,000 miles per hour), the cheapest ($100 million dollars), the most accurate (landing within 4 inches of its destination), and the greatest number of space miles travelled by one ship on one journey (4,000,000). The space craft will contain a number of items to be kept on the moon including a Bible and a digital copy of  Wikipedia.  As well, there is a robotic arm that will take the flag of Israel and plant in on the surface.

The bottom line?  Once again, Israel is proving that what they are  able to do as a minuscule land is really just out of this world!

MOON MEMOS

● Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars … ● Like the moon, we all have a dark side … ● Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon and the truth … ● In my defense, the moon was full and I was left unsupervised … ● The moon is for the lonely to talk to … ● Maybe the moon is only so beautiful because it is so far away … ● In the presence of the moon, nobody sees the stars … ● The sun watches what I do, but the moon knows all my secrets.

GENESIS 1:16 – And God made two great lights; the greater light (sun) to rule the day, and the lesser light (moon) to rule the night: he made the stars also.
