IN THE SCHOOL
School Lunch – All church/home school families are invited for a back-to-school luncheon downstairs in the fellowship room being held on Sunday, September 3, at 12:15 (after the morning service). Each home is asked to bring a salad and a dessert (if need be one or both can be kept cool in the kitchen refrigerator). The church will provide Kentucky Fried Chicken. Following the meal, the classrooms will be open for parents and children to view. Also, in the evening service, there will be a message by Dr. Paul Chappell entitled, Why We Stand For Christian Education (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). It is 40 minutes long.
IN THE CHURCH
Amish People – Pastor Gary will be teaching on, The Gospel According To The Amish. Amish people seem peaceful and separated from a world of crime, divorce, violence, etc., and to a large extent they are (such things are rare among their culture). And outsiders admire them for their hard work, craftsmanship, family and community values. They are also known for their innocence, honesty, separation from the world and desire to live plain, simple lives. But from a spiritual standpoint, it is estimated less than 10% of the total population understands the one true gospel of Jesus Christ as given in John chapter three. The majority of Amish people focus on outward appearance, traditons, and church rules for salvation. Their belief in Jesus Christ is often head knowledge and part of a long list of do’s and don’ts. The mind-set is: If I want to get to God, I have to do what I can; God will fill in the rest. The lessons start on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 10:00 a.m.
